IA migration §7: new Running GUI Applications page (general portal app-launch flow) (via create-page on MediaWiki MCP Server)

New page

Most graphical applications in the Apps Portal follow the same pattern: you pick the application, request resources for it, launch it as a job, and then connect to the running session from your browser. This page describes that general flow; the individual application pages give the details for each one.

Launching an application
# Open the Apps Portal at https://apps.anunna.wur.nl/.
# Choose the application — either from the Featured Apps speed-dial on the dashboard, or from All Applications in the navigation bar.
# Fill in the resource allocation form. Most forms let you set the partition, number of CPUs, amount of memory, number of GPUs, the maximum duration, and a comment (your project number, for billing). Request only what you need.
# Click Launch. This submits a job to the scheduler and takes you to My Interactive Sessions.

Connecting to a running session
On the My Interactive Sessions page each session appears as a card. When the session is ready, a Connect button appears (for example "Connect to RStudio Server"), which opens the application in your browser. You can return to this page at any time to reconnect.

Each card also has a Cancel button to end the session. A session stops automatically when its requested time runs out.

Available applications
Which applications you can use depends on your permissions and project allocations. Commonly used ones include:

* Linux desktop — a full graphical desktop
* RStudio — the RStudio IDE for R and Python
* Jupyter — Jupyter notebooks
* File Browser — manage files in the browser
* Shell Access — a terminal in the browser
